It's my grandmother's portrait. She poses with calm, straight and serene.
And then, behind her, almost in retreat, appears my uncle. With malice, he quietly raises two fingers above his head, drawing him rabbit ears. A childish joke he seems to enjoy fully, slipping a spark in a time too solemn.
This drawing traces this carefree momentum that resists the passage of time. For even when they have aged, even when the bodies slow down, there remains in them this bright spark, this taste of fun.
This work tells this tender contrast — between the ages we are wearing and the childhood we keep.
